Carter drifted back to sleep.

After a few hours, Flash wakes up again, and watches Carter quietly.

Carter slept silently. The only thing that showed he was still alive was the slow rise and fall of his chest and the constant beep on the monitor. After a few minutes, his eyes opened partially and he stared at the ceiling.

Flash hovers over him, and gives a small smile. "Hey babe," She whispers.

Carter's eyes meet Flash's and he smiled the best he was able to. "Hey."

Flash kisses him lightly, and gives a small smile.

Flash smiles, and touches his face lightly. "How are you feeling, Handsome," She asks quietly.

"My face is numb," he mumbled.

Flash nods, and drags her fingers down his chest lightly. "I would rather it be numb than you feel pain," She whispers.

"I feel like I'm going to bite my cheek, though," he mumbled, careful not to talk to fast.

"Once it's healed, the doctors said they can do more to help," Flash whispers, and kisses him again.

Carter closed his eyes again, not feeling up to doing anything but sleeping. He mumbled, "Can you call my boss?"

Flash nods. "Just get some sleep. I'll get everything done," She whispers, and grabs his phone off the table.

"Tell him the truth. Tell him how I was shot..." Carter said slowly.

Flash touches his arm lightly. "I will, Carter, get some sleep," She whispers, calls his boss, getting off the bed.

Carter kept his eyes closed, not moving, as he tried to fall back to sleep.

Flash steps out of the room, and waits for his boss to pick up.

"Carter." he said simply, answering the phone.

"No, this is Mary Shadows. Carter's in the hospital, he was shot," Flash whispers, pulling the door shut behind her.

"What happened?" he asked quickly.

Flash takes a deep breath. "Blake, the boy that escaped, he came to my mother's house. Him, Carter, and my body guard ended up having guns drawn. I managed to get Blake to drop the gun for a few seconds, Carter made his move, but Blake shot the side of his face. He's out of surgery, and I'm trying to get him to rest," She whispers.

"I don't know. The doctors said there might be permanent damage. That he might be almost deaf in his left ear, and close to blind in his left eye," She whispers, biting her tongue.
